The fares for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York City are set to increase on March 19, 2017.

Key Fare Changes to Understand

    • Lower bonus/discount rates: While the base fare on subways and buses will remain at $2.75, rides will receive a lower bonus or discount rates when loading value to a MetroCard. Previously, you would receive a bonus of 11% when you loaded at least $5.50 on a MetroCard. The bonus will decrease to 5%.
    • Weekly passes: A weekly MetroCard will increase from $31 to $32.
    • Monthly metro passes: A monthly MetroCard will increase from $116.50  to $121
    • Metro-North Railroad and the Long Island Railroad: Fares will rise approximately 4 percent. View point-to-point rate increases posted by MTA.

If you have a mass transit benefit, please make the appropriate changes to your election prior to March 19, 2017 to ensure the full cost of your fare will be available when making purchases.

For additional information regarding the increase, please see MTA Announcement regarding the increase.
