How to Manage your Back-to-School Expenses with Health Accounts

Back-to-School Expenses
Share:

It seems that summer is quickly passing by. In no time, children young and old will be trading in their beach gear for back packs. It is also a time for renewed physical health with annual physicals, immunizations, teeth cleanings and eye exams. In fact, August is National Eye Exam month (probably for that very reason).

So as you look at the month ahead don’t be overwhelmed by the back-to-school expenses to come. It is a good time to consider using your health account dollars (such as a Flexible Spending Account, Health Reimbursement Account or Health Savings Account).

Use your health account for some of these many eligible medical expenses:

  • Annual physical (likely covered by your medical plan)
  • Physician co-pays
  • Immunizations
  • Blood tests
  • Teeth cleanings
  • Dental exams
  • Dental fillings
  • Eye exams
  • Prescription eye glasses
  • Contacts and contact lens solution

When you have children, it seems accidents and injuries are inevitable. It is also a good time to consider stocking-up on many of the medicine cabinet essentials:

  • First-aid supplies
  • Foot insoles
  • Heat wraps
  • Heating pads
  • Sunscreen (Broad Spectrum SPF 15+)
  • Supports/Braces (e.g. ankle, knee, wrist, therapeutic glove)
