Our Favorite Specialty Accounts

We love touting all the reasons pre-tax benefit accounts are basically the best thing since sliced bread, but today we’re talking about specialty accounts. These are typically post-tax reimbursement accounts that are a desirable benefit for participants. Wellness reimbursement and tuition reimbursements are probably some of the most common specialty accounts, but there are so many more account types!

We think it’s safe to say that life looks a little different these days, and that means getting creative with your benefits offerings. Here are three of our favorite specialty benefits accounts:

Wellness Reimbursements

Wellness reimbursement accounts are the Campbell’s Soup of specialty accounts – they are trusty, dependable family favorites. Some days internal motivation just isn’t enough to get you out the door (and let’s be real…getting out the door is half the battle). A financial reimbursement can help give people the nudge they need to get moving and grooving on the tough days. It’s us. We are those people needing a nudge. Take it from the experts: everyone loves a wellness reimbursement!

One of the reasons wellness reimbursement accounts are so popular is that they are versatile. You can choose how you want to set it up. Anything from a traditional gym membership reimbursement to an online fitness subscription stipend, and even a home fitness equipment subsidy!

Speaking of online fitness classes, we’re big fans of CorePower Yoga’s On Demand options that work your mind and your glutes!

Tuition Reimbursements

BRI is a company that values and encourages the “Lifelong Learner” mindset. It’s no surprise then that tuition reimbursement is one of our favorite specialty accounts! Tuition reimbursement accounts can cover individual courses, certifications, and licensing. Mahatma Gandhi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” As voracious devourers of information ourselves, we love it when our yearning for learning is supported!

Home Office Expense Reimbursement

The crazy pandemic aside, working from home was already trending as a more popular benefit for attracting top talent. As the world slowly returns to normal, we don’t see this trend going away any time soon. While working in pajamas and having a 10-second commute down the hall to the home office are practically priceless perks in our book, we love home office expense reimbursement accounts! They can help employees cover the costs of office supplies so they can continue to work productively.

For many workers, their home office will continue to be their only office, even after things “return to normal.” We’re loving how this specialty account keeps up with today’s changing work structure.

These are just a few of our favorite varieties, but there are so many to choose from! If it’s an expense, it can be made into a specialty account – the sky’s the limit. What’s your favorite?
